It can be difficult to know what makes one brush cutter attachment better than another. That’s partly because making an attachment look good takes a lot less effort than making an attachment perform at a high level. And Virnig attachments? They do both. Our attachments are designed to perform and built to last.
Many brush cutters don't indicate what kinds of materials went into building them. At Virnig, we make our manufacturing decisions based on quality, durability, and performance. Our skid steer brush cutters are made with Grade 50 Steel, and our decks are 1/4" thick. In addition, we use a heavy flywheel/blade combination on all cutters with a minimum of 3 blades, while many competitors use just two blades. As a result, our brush cutters generally weigh more than the competition. By using thicker steel and bracing, Virnig brush cutter skid steer attachments are built to handle more stress without deforming.
The materials and components used in the manufacturing of Virnig skid steer brush cutters are really just the beginning. Throughout the life of our attachments, we keep a continued focus on improving our designs.
Here are five innovative changes we’ve made to our brush cutters that set them apart from the competition.
Brush cutters are easily one of the most dangerous attachments we manufacture. That's why we added hydraulic braking to stop flywheels within 10 seconds of powering down your equipment.
While you may find that some cutters feature flywheels that spin in both directions, allowing you to extend the life of your blades without flipping them when they become dull, we felt that safety was a more important feature for operators.
The spindle is the most expensive part of the brush cutter. And the output shaft seal is the most vulnerable part of the spindle — so why not guard it? Seal damage leads to oil loss, and as a result, bearing damage. We designed our spindle guards to protect the brush cutter’s output shaft seal and in turn, the bearings. Plus, the spindle guard protects your attachment in case you run across some rogue wire or other materials that could damage the spindle.
Standard pressure relief valves protect the motor and the loader’s hydraulic system from damaging pressure spikes. When the maximum pressure point is reached, the valve opens to prevent pressure from rising any further. This prevents seals or other internal components from failing due to excessive pressure.
Our blades are mounted on the bottom of the flywheel, rather than being sandwiched between two circular pieces of steel. With sandwich-style flywheels, the blades can get jammed when you hit rocks or hard debris. When this happens, you’ll need to hammer or torch them out and replace them. Our design prevents blades from jamming and allows them to cut closer to the ground.
Our easy access point makes it easy to change your blades when they become dull. Simply remove the plate to access the flywheels, then rotate and unbolt the blade.
Whether your goal is to improve performance, increase safety, or add longevity, Virnig continues to lead with innovation. Check out our current lineup of brush cutters.
