Identifying a High Quality Trencher

When selecting a trencher, quality is paramount. Virnig Trenchers are built with high-grade materials to withstand harsh working conditions for generations. Attention to detail ensures each component contributes to durability and reliability.

DIRECT DRIVE
Virnig Trenchers feature a powerful, direct drive system, utilizing a high torque Eaton® motor and USA-made planetary. This design needs fewer parts and less maintenance than a chain-driven trencher.

GREASABLE IDLER BEARING & ROBUST BOOM

The greaseable idler bearing at the trencher boom end ensures longevity and minimal downtime. With a stronger boom than many competitors, this trencher is built to last in the most challenging soil conditions.

ANTI-BACK FLEX CHAIN
When faced with tough digging conditions, our anti-back flex chain rises to the challenge, delivering high performance in demanding soil environments. Without this feature, the teeth may back-flex or not stay at the optimal digging angle which reduces trenching speed.

STANDARD CRUMBER
Our crumber keeps the trench bottom clean, smooth, and ready for utility line installation. Virnig crumbers come standard on all our trenchers.

Versatility of a Trencher Attachment

Here are the design features that set Virnig’s trenchers apart and help make trenching fast, precise, and efficient on the job site.

MANUAL SIDE-SHIFT & REMOVABLE AUGER
Need to trench close to structures? With manual side-shift and a removable auger, operators can trench near obstacles with ease.

DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
The 4-position depth adjustment system allows you to set 4 different trenching depths, ensuring consistency with each pass. For example, on a trencher with digging depth of three feet, you can adjust depth in 6” increments, ranging from 18” to the maximum depth. The depth adjustment system is particularly useful in areas with shallow bedrock that you want to avoid.

REVERSIBLE CHAIN ROTATION
Another key feature of our trencher is the ability to spin the chain in reverse. Trencher chains can get jammed with rocks, roots, or other debris while digging. If this happens, you can simply reverse the chain to dislodge the obstructions without manually clearing the trench or the trencher by hand.

TRENCHER CHAIN OPTIONS FOR VARYING SOIL CONDITIONS
With many chain options to choose from, you can customize your trencher for any soil conditions.

  1. Single Standard – Cup tooth every other station. Designed for soft to medium soils. Works well in wet and sticky soils such as wet clay.
  2. Double Standard – Cup tooth every station. Designed for soft to medium soils. Works well in sandy, dry, and loosely-packed soils.
  3. 70/30 Combo – 70% shark-style teeth with carbide inserts & 30% cup teeth. For soft to hard soils as well as rocky. The most versatile chain style for the V50 & V20 models.
  4. Rock and Frost – 50% cup teeth, 50% replaceable, rotating carbide rock teeth. Designed for rocky soils as well as frost. Carbide teeth spin as they hit rocks for even wear and longevity.
  5. Terminator – 50% cup teeth, 50% shark-style teeth with carbide inserts. Designed for soft to hard soils as well as rocky. The most versatile chain style, available for the V60 model Trencher.
